1970s Kitchen Remodel- An Amazing Transformation!

December 19, 2013

We wanted to take a moment to profile a recently finished project for some awesome clients! Thanks to homeowner Steve Oliver for taking the great “after” shots. Check out the before shots–and you’ll see the amazing transformation this kitchen went through. The small, cramped kitchen was opened up by removing walls, all flooring on the main floor was replaced with white oak, new lighting: cans and pendants really illuminate the space and granite countertops are complimented by dark custom cherry cabinets.

We recently completed a kitchen addition/remodel for some clients that were dealing with water damage from a leaking washing machine hose on the 1st floor.  The damage was extensive and they decided it was time to not just replace their losses, but remodel and improve their kitchen and other project areas in the home, which was built in 1919 and is located in North Portland. We’re really pleased with the results, and our clients are too: Houzz Review.

Asian Inspiration: Bathroom Lighting..Guest Post from Arcadian Home

May 30, 2013

Hello, everyone! I’m so happy to be here at Right Arm Construction with a guest post from Arcadian Home blog, a fantastic place to find lots of interior design inspiration including great decorating ideas for everything from fabulous mini pendant lights to colorful wall art and lots more.

Today’s topic is Asian inspired lighting for bathrooms. From ceiling lights to lovely metal and glass wall sconces, lighting inspired by the serenity and restrained beauty of Asian design merges seamlessly with today’s contemporary style in the bath. Please enjoy!

Thanks for letting me share!

~ Mari

The focal point of this Japanese style bathroom retreat is a modern pendant light designed by Miguel Herranz for LZF. This is a stunning example of how one single lighting fixture can change the entire dynamic of an interior space.

The Mini Mikado Suspension Light has a lovely Asian feelólight, airy and ever-changing with light and shadows. It’s created in brushed nickel and wood veneer strips in natural or appealing colors.

The Mini Mikado also comes in a beautiful contemporary wall sconce.

Metal and glass wall sconces are beautiful against the dark tiled wall of this impressive Asian style powder room. The stone vessel sink and intriguing faucet are a beautiful design choice atop an antique cabinet in rich wood.

We think a pair of these beautiful light fixtures that merge Mission and Asian styles would be perfect for an application like the one above. The Fusion Transitional Wall Sconce from Murray Feiss has a lovely ribbed glass shade set in a metal fixture with Grecian Bronze finish.

With the feel of a luxurious spa getaway, this Asian-inspired bath is at once beautiful and inviting. The freestanding contemporary tub is stunning in its wood cradle. Mood lighting above the stone wall, recessed ceiling lights and a two-light wall sconce above the vanity mirror provide lots of soft light in this space.

We think the Geller Transitional Wall Sconce from Golden Lighting would work well for an application like the one above. This pretty light is created with a solid curved wood frame and brushed sand glass shades.

This stunning bath with an Asian feel is all about carefully selected woods and natural stone. Modern pendant lighting hung close to the ceiling provides a soft glow which seems just right for this serene bath.

The Kyoto Transitional Pendant Light with its appealing silver leaf finish on hand wrought iron and Japanese Rice Paper construction would be a great design choice for an Asian-inspired bath with low ceiling.

The Kyoto Transitional Wall Sconce from Corbett Lighting in silver leaf finished wrought iron with Japanese rice paper is part of the same collection as the beautiful pendant light above.
